Beth Thomas
My name is Beth Thomas. I have been blessed to be a part of the Cascade faculty, family, and community during my 40 and one-half years of teaching. I retired in May 2024. Not yet ready to end my time of teaching, I am job-sharing with Kelly Parker in the Cascade High School Library, a position I have held for 15 years. I also continue to teach Dual Enrollment English Composition classes for Motlow State Community College.
I earned my Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from MTSU. My major for both is English with minors in library science, history, secondary education, and elementary education.
My teaching experience covers a variety of positions. My first position was teaching English composition classes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at MTSU, a valuable foundation for teaching writing. My next position was at Cascade High School teaching 9th and 11th grade English and American History. For the next 26 years, this position gradually became just 11th grade English as our student body grew. The third position was Media Specialist (Librarian) at Cascade High for the next fifteen years. Along the way of these years, I have taught English composition for Motlow State Community College for 18 years.
I was married to Dean Thomas (Cascade alumni) for 38 years. Sadly, he passed in December of 2023. We raised three wonderful children: Drew, Jake, and Sarah Beth, who all graduated from Cascade High. I have four adorable grandchildren.
My favorite pastime is spending time with my family. I have a deep passion for animals, especially our horses, dogs, and cats (too many to list). My hobbies include reading, swimming, and riding horses.
