At #BedfordCountySchools, we believe every #student deserves to learn in a safe, supportive and respectful environment. Bullying has no place in our schools, and together, we can build a culture of kindness, empathy and inclusion.🤝💖
This month is a reminder that small acts of respect and support can make a big difference in the lives of our #students. Let’s work together to ensure that all students feel valued, heard and empowered to be their best selves.🤝🫶

Recently, Bedford County Schools school counselors, Community in Schools partners, administrators, and our SEL & Mental Health Supervisor came together at the School Counselor and Administrators Leadership Institute (SCALI) to learn, grow and connect. 💼✨🤝
This year’s theme, Passion, Purpose, Position!, encouraged participants to reflect on the important role they play in supporting #students and strengthening school communities.
Throughout SCALI, participants explored critical topics including trauma, mental health support, behavior intervention strategies, collaboration and more. These professional learning opportunities provide valuable tools and insights to help our team respond to #student needs and create supportive learning environments. 🧠🌱🏫
#CommunityHighSchool Counselor Jordan Tatom also led a professional development session, Defined by Law, Guided by Ethics: Maximizing the School Counselor Role, sharing his expertise with fellow school counselors and administrators.
We’re proud of the commitment our team continues to make to professional growth and to strengthening the support available to students across Bedford County Schools. 💛🖤

Honors English II students have been reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as a supplement to the selections from the textbook which include Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Recently, they took time to discuss and compare:
✅ Characters: Victor Frankenstein &. Gregor Samsa
✅ Essential Questions: Do people need to belong? What does it mean to be a monster?
✅ Text Comparison: How do the perceptions of others impact our main characters? What parallels can be drawn between the two?
What looks like a fun, spirited classroom discussion is actually a successful demonstration of critical English standards and skills—analyzing theme, understanding character development, and comparing literary texts.
This is rigorous, engaging learning at its best! 🧡🖤

Students from across #BedfordCountySchools recently came together for a meaningful project that combined research, service and a commitment to honoring those who have served our country. 📚🎓
Shelbyville Central High School’s National Honor Society, #HOSA and Criminal Justice organizations, along with Cascade High School’s #CriminalJustice organizations, gathered information on veterans buried at Hillcrest Cemetery. 🇺🇸
As part of the project, #students documented veterans’ names, dates of birth and death, military branches, ranks, wars served and service medals and accommodations. 📝🎖️
The information gathered will assist the local Defenders of Freedom Organization with projects such as Wreaths Across America, which honors veterans by placing wreaths on the graves of servicemembers. 🇺🇸🪖
Through this experience, students learned more about military service, including different branches and ranks, while helping preserve the stories of veterans in their own community. Most importantly, they had the opportunity to honor the men and women who served our country. 🇺🇸❤️

Our Physics students recently learned about: ✅ Linear velocity & acceleration ✅ Tangential velocity & acceleration
✅ Centripetal acceleration
Now they're applying those concepts by working in groups to design and build roller coaster models from craft materials! This hands-on project requires engineering skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and a solid understanding of physics principles.
We love seeing our Champions take their learning beyond the textbook! 🧡🖤

✨ Continuing the Work. Strengthening Student Support.❤️
Interventionists from across #BedfordCountySchools recently gathered for a meaningful session that marked their final meeting with Mrs. Susan Huff, who is retiring at the end of September, and the beginning of a transition as Dr. Sandra Powell prepares to continue leading this important work.
Throughout their time together, our Interventionists have worked to strengthen supports for students across BCS, sharing ideas, collaborating and focusing on strategies that help #students grow and succeed. 📚🌟
As this work transitions, the commitment to supporting #student learning continues. BCS appreciates Mrs. Huff for the time, #leadership and collaboration shared with Interventionists and looks forward to the continued work under the leadership of Dr. Powell.🫶
