At a special called meeting of the Bedford County Board of Education, board members voted unanimously to appoint a new superintendent of schools in preparation for the June retirement of current Superintendent Dr. Tammy Garrett.
The board selected Tim Harwell following a comprehensive review and discussion process, with the goal of ensuring a smooth leadership transition and continued stability for the district.
“We are grateful for the dedicated service and leadership of our current superintendent, and we are confident that Mr. Harwell will build upon that strong foundation,” said School Board Chairman Michael Cook. “The board is committed to a seamless transition that keeps the focus on what matters most — our students, staff and community.”
The newly appointed superintendent will officially assume the role on June 2, 2026, working alongside district leadership to support ongoing initiatives and future goals.
