Several Bedford County Schools Earn Top Marks on Tennessee State Report Card

Several Bedford County Schools received A or B ratings on the 2024–2025 Tennessee Department of Education State Report Card, highlighting strong academic performance and student growth across the district.

According to district officials, eight schools earned overall letter grades of A or B. Cascade High School and Cascade Middle School each received an overall A rating, while the following schools earned B ratings: Cascade Elementary School, Community Elementary School, Community High School, East Side Elementary School, Shelbyville Central High School and Thomas Magnet School.

In addition to overall grades, several schools posted high scores in individual state accountability sub-indicators, which measure student achievement, academic growth and preparation for future success.

Cascade High School stood out at the state level, earning the highest possible score of 5 in all four accountability categories: Achievement, Growth, Growth of Highest Need Students and College and Career Readiness.

“This recognition places Cascade High School among an elite group of schools across the state,” said Bedford County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tammy Garrett. “Only 27 high schools statewide — approximately 6 percent of Tennessee public high schools — earned a Level 5 designation in all four accountability categories. This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication of Cascade’s students, teachers, administrators and families.”

Cascade Middle School also earned top marks, receiving a score of 5 in all three applicable sub-indicators: Achievement, Growth and Growth of Highest Need Students. College and Career Readiness is not measured for middle or elementary schools.

Several other schools demonstrated notable performance in individual categories. Shelbyville Central High School earned top scores in Growth and Growth of Highest Need Students. Cartwright Elementary School, Community High School and East Side Elementary School each earned a top score in Growth, while Cascade Elementary School and Thomas Magnet School earned top scores in Achievement.

State accountability sub-indicators help families understand how schools support student learning, measuring achievement on state assessments, academic growth and support for students with the greatest needs. At the high school level, College and Career Readiness reflects how well students are prepared for life after graduation.
